Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
If using bacon, cook it in a Dutch oven or skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving some grease in the pan.
Add chopped onions and garlic to the pan, sautéing until soft and fragrant.
Stir in ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well.
Add the cooked beans and broth, stirring to combine.
Transfer the mixture to a baking dish (if not using a Dutch oven) and top with cooked bacon if using.
Cover and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until thickened.
Remove from the oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use vegetable broth. To add heat, mix in chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
